omdb (open media database) is a free database for film media. There is no set editorial staff, but rather a large number of movie addicts and lovers who volunteer their time to provide material and develop the site. Anybody can add or change existing information on omdb once they have done the quick and simple task of signing up for their user login name. Films will thus be represented with equal opportunities as Blockbusters, Soap Operas, and a college thesis film will each have their own place on omdb.
omdb is a non-commercial project. All the contents of the site are published under the Creative Commons License. The databank is therefore represents a contribution to free knowledge on the internet. The information does not belong to a company or person but rather to the general public. omdb consciously keeps itself away from commercial related information with an objective to provide an self-contained film database.
Blistit is a premium listing service based in the United Kingdom. It provides the functionality associated with premium listing sites such as auction sites, job sites, dating sites etc. such as advanced search capability, professional look and feel to listings and electronic payment integration. Unlike other premium listing services, Blistit is free to post standard listings.

CrispyNews? is a site where anyone can create their own community news site (think digg, reddit). It is built in Ruby on Rails, and uses Ferret for its search engine.
Our experience with Ferret has been great. There are a few issues with 64-bit processors (I think) We were using 0.9.1, and we downgraded to 0.3.2 and things work fine now. Kudos to the Ferret team for their great work. CrispyNews
Doxroom is a ruby on rails app to share and search in documents, derived from Boxroom. Both are free software, both use Ferret and Act as ferret. Doxroom's advanced search options are basically an interface to the power of Ferret, which was really easy to integrate.
Kenlet is a site where you can share your expertise in exchange for other people's expertise. It is built in Ruby on Rails, and uses Ferret for its search engine.
Our experience with Ferret has been great. In total, it took 5 hours to go from 'gem install' on the dev machine through installation, configuration and deployment on the production server. It's a good improvement over our last search engine, in terms of what we are able to index. We have just begun to use it today, so we can't provide additional information but so far we're sold. BigPatents (http://www.bigpatents.com) is a new source for patent data. It contains a novel data set with features unavailable anywhere else, including the full family tree for patents/applications.
All of the search functionality is handled by ferret. Over 3,000,000 patents and their abstracts were indexed using ferret. So far, the performance has been outstanding. We're also using the "acts_as_ferret" rails plugin.

Ourbis is a businesses directory (currently indexing canadian businesses) which makes it easier to find what you need, whether it's a plumber, baby clothes or a restaurant. People and business owners contribute photos, descriptions, keywords and opinions about the businesses they own, or like. It's a true local community powered search engine.
It also features an "explore" mode, which allows you to see what's around your neighborhood, and filter to get an idea of where you can find what you're looking for on the map.
Business owners can use it as a platform to promote their business for free. All results are sorted by proximity, which helps small businesses get noticed. The recent additions are shown on the main page.
